Cognitive Infocommunications (CogInfoCom) is a newly emerging research field that investigates the link between infocommunications and cognitive sciences, with the goal of creating engineering systems in which artificial and natural cognitive systems can work together more effectively. The efficiency of human communication techniques underlies the importance of utilizing function of natural systems in the scope of CogInfoCom. In this paper, we investigate the potential of adopting scientific results of Ethology-based Communication in a real-world emotion-based system. We introduce a pilot application which demonstrates how the adoped concepts can be employed in the case of teleoperation performed on an industrial KUKA robot. Thus, we provide an example of an ethology-based CogInfoCom (EtoCom) system. © 2012 IEEE.
