Abstract

The famous factorization theorem of Zsolt Baranyai is applied for the determination of the covering radius of certain binary codes (the ones that correspond to extreme qualitative independent set systems - studied some time ago by Rényi, Katona, Bollobás and other authors. Zsolt Baranyai was not only a gifted mathematician, but also one of the best recorder players of his time, who died in a traffic accident at age thirty in connection with his activity as a musician.
