Abstract

This paper explores the application of advanced Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) systems for the preservation of cultural heritage assets, focusing on two historic buildings: the Hospital Real of Granada (Spain) and the Palazzo Poniatowski-Guadagni (Florence, Italy). The SHM systems developed in these buildings feature an open-access and scalable data capture architecture through REST APIs, SQL and noSQL databases enabling automatic quasi-real time operational modal analysis. The results highlight the system’s effectiveness in evaluating the structural integrity and supporting the creation of a dynamic digital twin for both buildings. The paper is part of the BUILDCHAIN Horizon Europe project, which promotes the use of Digital Building Logbooks (DBLs) and Digital Twin (DT) technologies to enhance data-driven decision-making in the built environment.
