Abstract

Climate change, with the increase of the frequency and magnitude of climate and weather extremes, and earthquake events in seismic prone areas, are two of the major concerns for the preservation of the built environment. Current procedures for the assessment of existing buildings require significant efforts to first retrieve information that is spread in different archives, or even lost, about the building, its geometry, structural scheme, building materials, history of interventions, and so on. DBLs can represent useful tools to facilitate the assessment process, collect the results in a systematic way and evaluate them at a higher scale than that of a single building, for example at a city level to define intervention priorities and adaptation strategies. The paper presents the use case and tool for earthquake and climate proof of buildings developed in the BUILDCHAIN Horizon Europe project, which promotes the use of DBLs to achieve a smarter and more sustainable built environment.
