Abstract

Hub-and-spoke networks are able to fulfill requirements formerly perceived as contradicting criteria in the logistics industry, and can combine complementary competencies of participating enterprises. This, however, implies organisational heterogeneity which may hamper networkwide transparency needed for improved operation. The ADVANCE project aims to bridge such transparency gaps by providing modelling, analysis and decision support tools to utilise the potential implicitly present in the network. A key component in this work is a data-flow framework which relies on an implementation of the reactive programming paradigm for large data throughput with efficient resource usage. The paper presents theoretical achievements and first practical experience gained with the data-flow framework.
